The nursery at the Animal Shelter is empty. Every one of the kittens was placed with a new family, having been spayed or neutered, immunized and given a microchip. They are in our records permanently, so if Tom or Tabby should wander off, the Animal Shelter can identify the little wanderer and, hopefully, return him/her to the owner. Keeping your cat indoors is recommended, especially now that summer brings a heavy increase in traffic.

Two new additions have been added to the Shelter’s cat population. One is a pure bred Ragdoll. She is a sealpoint beauty named Tehya. Her owner, unfortunately, was allergic to her and so surrendered her for adoption. Once she has been given a clean bill of health by the vet she will be ready for a new owner. T.C. is also eager for a new home. She is a calico cat who is a champion purrer, a nice noise to add to the sounds of summer.

Oops, I mis-wrote in this column last week that by contacting the Animal Shelter you might be able to get a ticket to the Garden Party. In fact we do not issue tickets, but we do send invitations to those who ask to be put on the guest list. You can still be invited for this Sunday, July 14 by requesting inclusion on that list from the Animal Shelter.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown MA 02539.
