Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs begins its 2013 season on Sunday, June 30, with a slate of visiting preachers, some returning for their second or third visit and others preaching here for their first time.

Hon. Margaret Marshall, retired Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, is making her Union Chapel debut on July 7. Later in the summer Morehouse College’s new president, Dr. John S. Wilson, Rev. Otis Moss, III from Trinity Church in Chicago, Bishop Robert Wright, the Tenth Bishop from the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta and Dr. Robert Hill, Dean of Marsh Chapel at Boston University take the pulpit.

Among those returning are Rev. Susan Sparks from the Madison avenue Baptist Church in New York city, Rev. Dr. Charles Adams, from Hartford Church in Detroit, Mich.; and Rev. Liz Walker, from Roxbury Presbyterian Church, in Roxbury, Mass. Rev. Walker provided the opening prayer at the Boston Marathon Memorial Service in Boston, where President Obama spoke.

Union Chapel begins its summer spiritual season on Sunday, June 30, with Union Chapel Trustee Emeritus, Rev. Dr. John Schule.

Dr. Schule, a retired pastor for the Federated Church in Edgartown, served for 46 years as pastor in the United Church of Christ in Connecticut, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He was honored by Governor Abraham Ribicoff for his work with Dr. Abraham Zeiker, State Department of Mental Health, and for his work in civil rights. The Federated Church of Martha’s Vineyard honored him by making him the first pastor emeritus in its 360-year history.

Union Chapel is a non-denominational church and is located at the intersection of Circuit, Kennebec and Narragansett avenues. An organ prelude begins at 9:40 a.m. and the service begins at 10 a.m.
