I have nothing to say really about the weather this week except every time the sun comes out my grass grows an inch an hour. I don’t think I really paid attention to that until now when I have to mow the lawn myself.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Donald O’Shaughnessy Jr. and Cassandra Silva, who celebrated their day June 8; Caitlyn Patnaude on June 9; Mario Burnham, Nicholas Cowan and Joanne Lowell-Bettencourt, who all celebrated their day June 11; and to Gabriella Carlos Silva, who celebrates her day today, June 14.

Happy anniversary wishes go out to Janice and Michael Donaroma, who will celebrate 30 years of marriage on June 15. Congratulations to you both and here is to many more years together.

Congratulations to Lucy (nee Orazem) and Michael Pelham on the birth of their first child, Nancy Magnolia, who arrived weighing 6 pounds, 2 ounces. Lucy, Michael and Nancy live in the house that Lucy’s mother, Nancy, lived in as a girl. The proud grandparents are Garrett and Deborah Mello Orazem.

Jack and Dee Butynski just returned from a 14-day cruise to Hawaii to celebrate their 40th anniversary. They had a great time and got some well-needed rest.

Also Jack and Dee’s daughter, Kaitlyn Butynski, got engaged over the holidays to Casey Leber. They live in Ashburn, Va. Casey’s parents are Colleen and Lawrence Leber, of Oak Hill, Va. The wedding will be at the Harbor View Hotel on Oct. 19, 2013, and both families could not be happier. Kaitlyn is the granddaughter of Marjorie Look and the late Christopher Look.

There will be a parade of pets from the Harbor View Hotel to the Edgartown Lighthouse led by the Black Dog’s mascot followed by Father Nagle of the Good Shephard Parish having a Blessing of the Animals on the Harbor View’s front porch at 11 a.m.

Graduation weekend was a good one. The weather cooperated with the ceremony and there were lots of purple and white balloons marking the homes of where the graduation parties were being held. Many had parties the night before and some are being held at a later date.

I went to Kassidy Bettencourt’s party and there were lots of people and plenty of great food. Kassidy and a lot of her friends were there and were involved in a big game of corn hole along with many of the other guests. You forget how grown up they all are until you see them in action and that the small children you once knew are now ready to go into the big world and continue with the next phase of their lives. Congratulations to you all and best wishes on your new endeavors.

Congratulations to the Edgartown Eighth grade class of 2013 who graduate on June 14.

Happy Father’s Day goes out to all you lucky men out there. May you have time to golf, fish or whatever your favorite pastime is.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
