The cat cages at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard are once again starting to fill up. There are six sweet cats waiting to find homes. They are: Simon, a big tabby and white neutered male; Hazel, a short-haired Calico; Rosie, a shy tuxedo kitty who will come out of hiding for anyone who will pat her and give her the attention she craves; Michael, a beautiful black stray from West Tisbury who was found near the West Tisbury Cemetery and surely is someone’s missing pet; Lotus, a large orange female cat; and Tess, a handsome Russian blue spayed female with long hair. The shelter has one kitten, Miss Moppet, who will charm you with her playful antics. She will be spayed in a week or so and then ready to go to a new home.

Is anyone from the Oakdale section of Edgartown missing a sweet young tabby? She was found under a porch with her five newborn kittens and brought to the shelter last week. Please call the shelter or come by to identify her.

Stop by the shelter’s table at the Pink and Green Weekend on Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to noon in the park on Main Street in Edgartown. Bring your dog on a leash dressed in his or her best pink and green finery for the dog show, and have your dog’s picture taken. You can have a look at the Linda Jean’s new cookbook, order a brick for the shelter’s memorial sidewalk and lots more. A fun spring event.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown MA 02539.
