For the second year in a row, the boys’ basketball team has advanced to the finals of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association sectional tournament after defeating Medway 70-60 in the semifinal match Monday evening in Taunton.

With the win, the boys improved their season record to 17-5 and advance to the Division 3 South Section finals, which will be played today at UMass-Boston.

The final game will serve as a rematch, with the Vineyard taking on number-one-seed Wareham, who last year topped the Vineyard 70-65 in the finals to finish out an undefeated season and advance to the statewide bracket. The Vikings are a one-loss team this season, and are 22-1 overall. The Vineyard is seeded number seven this year. Number-11-seed Medway pulled within six points of the Vineyard with three minutes left in the game on Monday, but the team fended off the challenge to secure their spot in the section finals. The Vineyarders previously edged out number-10-seed Bourne and number-two-seed Bishop Feehan to advance to the semifinal match.
