The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard thanks everyone who has adopted animals in the past few weeks — shelter cages are almost empty except for two adorable seven-week-old kittens, Fluffykins, and Georgia, who are dark, gray female tigers with blue eyes. Fluffykins is a long-haired kitty and Georgia has short hair. They are both too cute to describe, and their mother is a young tortoiseshell who will be ready to go to her new home in a couple of weeks after she is spayed.

The other cat at the shelter is dear old Brody who is still waiting for a new home where he can live quietly and peacefully for the rest of his life. Brody may be old but he is still full of life and love and must be an indoor cat due to his age. His adoption fee will be waived.

The shelter also has a sweet little male chihuahua named Jerry; he is a bit fearful around young children and would do best in a home with children over the age of 15. There is also a chihuahua-Italian greyhound cross named Millie who comes with her own wardrobe.

The staff at the shelter is grateful to everyone who volunteered to foster dogs during the recent blizzard so they would not be alone. The cats were all comfortable and well fed. If you would like to foster an animal in the event of an emergency like a severe storm, please come to the shelter and put your name on our foster parent list.

The shelter is a drop-off place for the Boys and Girls club pet food project to collect unopened pet food for people in need. Please bring unopened food to the shelter during open hours and it will be delivered to the club.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; the shelter is funded solely by donations. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown MA 02539.
