The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard has a few nice animals who need good homes.

Where are all the people who love tuxedo cats and kittens? We have two of the most adorable five-month-old kittens: Brady and Burt, who are brothers and have the most affectionate dispositions. They beg to be loved and have purrs that will melt your heart. We also have two 12-week-old kittens: Cedric, who is a ginger tabby, and his sister, Cherry, who is a beautiful brindle calico. Our other cats are: Mittens, a beautiful and affectionate young ginger and white kitty who really needs to be in a forever home soon. She has been with us for a long time and wants to have her own person for the holidays, as do all of our cats and kittens.

Our older cats, whose adoption fees will be waived for some kind angel who will give these deserving cats good homes, are: Daisy, a lovely grey and white cat; Eve, a handsome black stray from the Sweetened Water Farm area who obviously was someone’s cherished pet; Rex, our old fellow who has been with us for such a long time; and lastly, Vickie, a sweet older tabby. Won’t someone with a big heart please come and see these sweet older cats and give them a nice warm home for the holidays? Remember that all of these older cats have been neutered and have all of their shots.

Our featured animal this week is Bella, a sweet little tan and white guinea pig who would make such a wonderful Christmas present for some young person. Guinea pigs are fun and cute little animals.

To the person who dropped off a handsome gentle old tiger cat in front of the Vineyard Veterinary Clinic without notifying anyone — it was a cruel and thoughtless act. This old man was brought to us at the shelter and was given food and a warm bed. He has been checked out by Dr. Breese and given his rabies shot, vaccinations and a good examination. We do not ask any questions at the shelter — if you can’t afford medical care, we understand and will do our best to find your pet a good home, but PLEASE do not abandon an animal at our shelter or at a vet’s office — especially during the cold winter months. We have named this old gentle cat Brody.

If anyone would like to join the shelter float in the Edgartown Christmas parade on Dec. 8, please meet at the Edgartown School at 11 a.m. If you have any questions, please call the shelter at 508-627-8662.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Contributions are always gratefully accepted; we are funded solely by donations. The Susie Fund was established to pay the medical expenses of animals at the shelter who need medical care. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown MA 02539.
