Snow is in the air, or at least it feels as such. The temperatures have dropped to the 30s and 40s most days. Gray skies are starting to surround us. Deer season has been off to a good start in Aquinnah with more than two dozen deer weighed in during the first two days at the tribal weigh-in station that is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Natural resources director Bret Stearns noted the deer are healthy looking and within a good weight range.

The Aquinnah Shellfish Committee will recommend to the Aquinnah selectmen at their meeting on Dec. 4 to open Menemsha Pond for commercial scalloping. Those interested in scalloping this winter must complete a long-form application. The forms will be available from town administrator Adam Wilson, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the town hall.

There will be another indoor farmers’ market at the Agricultural Hall on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop in for an array of local items for your holiday shopping pleasure.

Roxane Ackerman and her daughter Diamond “Ellie” Vanderhoop returned home on Sunday after spending Thanksgiving in Rhode Island with the Spears family and then a quick trip to Brooklyn to visit with daughter Naushon and granddaughter Nanawusuwee.

Bill and Joan Kistner returned to their home in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Tuesday after spending the week with our grandson Noah and his parents Paul and Theresa. We will look forward to their return in a few weeks.

Darren and Nancy Leport and their children Coltrane and Menasha returned on Sunday after spending Thanksgiving in New York with the Leport family.

Beatrice Patadal returned to her home in New York on Sunday after spending Thanksgiving with her grandmother Beatrice Gentry, her mother Joan Gentry Patadal and her aunt Barbara Gentry.
