It did not seem possible, but there was someone working in the nursery this week with a tank top on. Who knew that it would be 60 degrees in November?

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Julia Murray and Jameson Whitmarsh, who celebrated their day on Nov. 10; to Caleb Guerrero on Nov. 11; to Marshall Davidson and Noah Smith on Nov. 15; and to Brooke Ward, who celebrates her day today, Nov. 16.

I know we have talked about Superstorm Sandy, and I know that many of you know that Ryan Murtha put a lot of time and effort to fill his truck with supplies for people in New York and New Jersey. But you can never say thank you enough for such a great deed.

When we heard about the truck we got things together to take over last Thursday evening. The truck was accepting donations from 5 to 7:30 p.m. When we arrived at 5:15 p.m., the truck was almost half-full. Car after car was pulling into the parking lot, and there were cases of everything coming out of each car. It made us all happy that we could contribute to something that was so devastating for other people. Even the Steamship Authority needs a thank you as they let the truck on without the cost of the reservation so more money could go to the victims. So again, thank you, Ryan — you made all of us Islanders very proud.

I am sorry that I did not mention the veterans in my last column. But I would like to say thank you from all of us for the sacrifices you all made for our freedom.

The Federated Church of Edgartown will hold its third annual Festival of Wreaths on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the parish house on 45 South Summer street. Seventy-five originally designed, hand-decorated natural wreaths, will be for sale for $45 each. Admission is $10, which includes beverages, hors d’oeuvres and a raffle. Proceeds benefit the maintenance of the 1832 Sara Mayhew Parsonage. For more information, call Marna Waller at the church office at 508-627-4421.

This Saturday, Nov. 17, will be the third winter farmers’ market in West Tisbury. This is the time for everyone to support local farmers and order your fresh Island turkeys, pies, desserts and winter and greenhouse veggies. The vendors from Edgartown are the Farm Institute, Old Town Gardens, Morning Glory Farm and Chesca’s. Kevin Keady will be playing music with the Cattle Drivers.

Save the date: Edgartown board of trade’s Christmas in Edgartown is Dec. 7 to 9. For more information, visit the Edgartown board of trade’s Facebook page or find information online at edgartownboardoftrade.com.
