Have you noticed the new look of the Vineyard Gazette online this past week? The town columnists have representative pages for their individual towns. You may submit photographs of your town or any notes specific to your town. The online website will be offered free of charge for the next few weeks but an annual subscription will assure you of having the news in your mailbox at a rate less than the purchase of the paper at the store each week.

Aquinnah’s own Jan Wightman, director of the Minnesingers, would appreciate your attending the annual Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Auction and Mini-Concert this evening at Farm Neck Cafe. The silent auction begins at 6:30 p.m. and the mini-concert and live auction begin at 8 p.m. There will be hors d’oeuvres, dessert and a cash bar throughout the evening. Tickets are $25. You will also have the ability to preview selected items and bid online at 32auctions.com/mvrhsminnesingers. The Minnesingers choral group will be traveling to Croatia in the spring and need your support to boost their goal.

Join the young ghosts and goblins at the Aquinnah town hall on Halloween. The moms will once again have an enjoyable evening for the young ghoulies to enjoy.

Congratulations to Isaac and Noli Taylor on the birth of their daughter on Oct. 17 at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. As of yet, her name remains a secret but we will officially welcome our new neighbor next week. Congratulations to the HatMarCha Shop, the recipient of the Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club award of excellence for their contributions to the beautification of their garden at the Cliffs area. Marshall Lee and Martha Vanderhoop are very proud of their award. Their shop will remain open through the month of October with lots of items on sale.

Thank you to the Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club for planting butterfly bush along the perimeter of the Aquinnah Circle. Needless to say, we have enjoyed an abundance of Monarch butterflies this season.

Paul, Theresa and Noah Manning returned home on Sunday afternoon after attending the 80th birthday celebration of William J. Kistner in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Bill and Joan were quite happy and proud to have all six children and spouses and six of their granchildren in attendance who had arrived from California, Delaware, Massachusetts, North Carolina and New York. Party favors included decorated jars of candies which had been favorites in 1932 as well as placards of the price of foods at that time, the cost of cars, and the average salary at that time. The Kistner family had a wonderful weekend together and we will look forward to Bill and Joan arriving for a visit in Aquinnah soon.

Condolences to Peter and Teresa Temple and their daughters Alexa and Zoe and their family in the loss of his father Herbert Mortimer Temple 3rd.
