George and Mary Lu Hough of West Tisbury will mark their 69th wedding anniversary on Saturday. They were married on Oct. 20, 1943, by a Navy chaplain on the day George was commissioned an ensign in the U. S. Naval Reserve. They honeymooned briefly, including a few days spent on the Island, then George went to the Mediterranean where he spent some 15 months as a deck officer on an LST with the Eighth Amphibious Force. During that time, LST 352 took part in amphibious landings at Anzio, Elba and Southern France. During his absence, Mary Lu was a reporter on the Detroit Free Press. They have one daughter, Mary Pat Hough-Greene; a grandson, Neil Greene; a granddaughter, Lydia Lura Harmer, and two great-grandsons, Patrick Harmer Jr., and Harper Neil Greene. The Houghs will celebrate their anniversary weekend with family with a weekend stay at the Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth.
