Consider for a moment the other vegetable. The one that doesn’t grow in the dirt in long, curvy rows to be forever guarded against grubs and weeds. How about a vegetable that is a true gift from the sea? We’re talking about seaweed here. On Thursday, Oct. 11 beginning at 6 p.m., Slow Food Martha’s Vineyard and the Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group are putting together an entire evening dedicated to seaweed. From 6 to 7 p.m. enjoy a dinner at the Beach Plum Inn prepared from cultured seaweeds by Kitchen Porch.

From 7 to 8 p.m. there will be a presentation of kelp farming in New England by Paul Dobbins of Ocean Approved cultured seaweeds in Maine

The cost is $20 or $15 slow food members.
