Juli Vanderhoop says her bakery is her politics. Brava, say I.

Every Wednesday she lets people make their own pizza. But they have to share half of what they make. “Sometimes people get upset and ask, why do I have to share? Honestly, some four-year-olds know how to share better. But that simple act of sharing food and time together has become something really special.”

Reminds me of the angel showing heaven and hell to a person in a dream. In hell, the people were seated in a banquet hall surrounded by delicious food, but their forks were longer than their arms so that they couldn’t get any in their mouths, and they were starving in the midst of plenty. In heaven, the people were seated in a banquet hall surrounded by delicious food, and their forks were longer than their arms so that they couldn’t reach their mouths, but they were feeding each other.

Peace is like bread, like love: you’ve got to make it fresh every day. Juli Vanderhoop makes peace. Brava!
