Earlier this summer, Dreamland in Oak Bluffs opened up as a large venue music space. The new club has been very active, hosting numerous local bands throughout the summer, a CD release party for Ben Taylor and a DJ night featuring Questlove of The Roots.

And now on Friday, August 31, Dreamland hosts Martin Sexton.

Mr. Sexton is no stranger to the Island, having played here numerous times. But each appearance is a cause for celebration. Mr. Sexton began his career busking around Harvard Square and although he is now, many albums later, a national talent, his work stays true to these streetwise roots. In 2007 he released Seeds which debuted at number six on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. As for his musical genre, perhaps the Los Angeles Times put it best. “Call him a soul shouter, a road poet, a folkie or a rocker and you wouldn’t be wrong.”

In all, Mr. Sexton has recorded 10 albums, including the this year’s Fall Like Rain.

The show starts at 9 p.m. with Phil DaRosa doing a solo opening act.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
