The deadline for entry into this year’s 35th annual George Moffett Memorial Race is approaching. Friday, Aug. 31, is the last day for entry forms to be mailed to the Holmes Hole Sailing Association.

While the race is still more than a week away, organizers of the event need to do their handicap work in preparation for the race on Saturday, Sept. 8. Last year there were 40 boats participating in the race.

Sailboats participating in the race range from 16 to 75 feet. The all-day race begins in mid-morning and usually ends in mid-to-late afternoon. The course of the race will depend is decided by the race committee based primarily on wind, weather and participation, and can range from nine to as long as 19 nautical miles.

Entry forms can be obtained electronically by visiting the Holmes Hole Sailing Association’s website: homeshole.org. There are instructions at the website for entering and paying electronically.

The entry fee is $40, or $35 for U.S. Sailing members. Entry forms also can be mailed in and must be received by Friday. The mailing address is Holmes Hole Sailing Association, care of Gates, 216 Ocean View Farm Road, Chilmark, MA 02535.
