A 21-year-old Pennsylvania man has been charged with rape after an alleged incident in Oak Bluffs.

Joseph D. Williams, 21, of Verona, Pa., was arraigned August 16 in Edgartown district court on charges of rape and selling/delivering alcohol to a person under 21.

According to a police report filed in court, an 18-year-old who knew Mr. Williams casually through mutual friends said she met with Mr. Williams at his parents’ residence in Oak Bluffs on August 13. She told police that the two drank shots of Absolut vodka and then went for a walk to Inkwell Beach. When there, she told police, Mr. Williams allegedly raped her. She went to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital the next day and reported the alleged assault.

Bail was set at $1,000, with a further condition of no contact with the alleged victim. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for Sept. 28.
