Just two more Monday Night Specials left for the summer season. These works-in-progress events are hosted by the Vineyard Playhouse and take place at the Hebrew Center in Vineyard Haven. Last week featured plays by Robert Brustein and starred Tony Shalhoub and Brooke Adams in the reading. Earlier in the summer Joyce Carol Oates took the stage for a question and answer session following the reading of her new play Emily & Joyce.

This week the special is All New, a night of musical theatre starring Marisa Michelson and friends. The concert is a medley of four of Ms. Michelson’s musicals which include Still Life with Toe Shoes, Tamar and the River, Scherezade and The Grid. Her music draws its inspiration from world music such as Middle Eastern and pre-Western chanting to alternative pop singers. Ms. Michelson received a 2011 Jonathan Larson award and a 2009 American Musical Voices: The Next Generation award from the Shen Family Foundation.

Tickets are $25, available at the door or in advance by calling 508-687-2452 or visiting vineyardplayhouse.org.

The following Monday, August 27, the final special will be In Development, written by Yorri J. Berry and directed by Brandon Monokian. In Development stars Suzzanne Douglas of Tap, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and The Parent ‘Hood.
