A New Jersey man was med-flighted to a Boston area hospital Friday after being injured when the moped he was operating collided with a Jeep on State Road in West Tisbury, police said.

According to a police report, Robert Czech, 47, of Clifton, N.J., sustained injuries after being ejected from his moped. His passenger, Emily McDonald, 25, of New York, N.Y., was also injured and taken to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, West Tisbury police Cpl. Garrison Vieira said Friday.

Neither police nor the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital had an update on the condition of the people who were injured.

The driver of the Jeep, John Poduska, 74, of Weston, and his passenger, Lily Poduska, 25, were not injured, police said.

According to the police, the moped was headed south on State Road near the Polly Hill Arboretum when it veered into the oncoming traffic lane and collided with the 1993 Jeep Cherokee, which was traveling north. The police report said that witnesses traveling behind Mr. Czech on other mopeds observed the moped wobbling before it entered the other lane.

The moped was rented from Island Hoppers in Oak Bluffs, and Mr. Czech was wearing a helmet, the police report said.

Police also said that there was no evidence of improper driving by Mr. Poduska, and that Mr. Czech was cited for a motorized bicycle violation.

West Tisbury police, West Tisbury fire and Tri-Town ambulance responded to the scene, Mr. Vieira said, and Chilmark police and state police also responded and assisted with blocking a stretch of road between Scotchman’s Bridge Lane and North Road.
