Arnold McCuller has sang with Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Bette Midler, Beck, Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett — the list goes on and on. But mostly the list begins and ends with James Taylor.

Mr. McCuller started singing with JT in 1977 and for 34 years they harmonized together, both on and off-stage. Most bands break up; the road and ego are like hungry beasts set on devouring musical friendships. But still, 34 years is a long time to sing in the wings. Recently, Mr. McCuller embarked on a solo career. Last year he travelled to the Vineyard to perform at the Whaling Church with Ben Taylor. The concert was so popular, the powers that be have brought Mr. McCuller back for an encore. The show is tonight, July 27, beginning at 8 p.m. at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown.

And although Mr. McCuller is ostensibly doing his solo thing, he will be joined by a host of friends, including Jon Gilutin, keyboardist for Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor, and Rick Marotta, drummer for James Taylor, Jackson Brown, Steely Dan and Carly Simon. Plus, well, you never know who else might jump in from the wings.

General admission tickets are $40, premium seats are $75 and are available at Above Ground Records, Al’s Package Store, Edgartown Books and online at ticketsmv.com/mcculler.
