Stone Wall Show

Photographer Mariana Cook first noticed the timeless beauty of stone walls when her neighbor’s cows broke through the one that separates their properties in Chilmark.

“I realized how beautiful the wall was, and started wondering about who built it, and how the stones [were put together],” she said.

Her fascination prompted her to travel the world, over the course of eight years, photographing stone walls. Her gelatin prints, published in a book called Stone Walls: Personal Boundaries, are now on display at the A Gallery in Vineyard Haven.

Ms. Cook will discuss her work Tuesday, July 31 at the Whaling Church in Edgartown, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Admission is $8 for members of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum and $12 for nonmembers.
