The following cases were heard in Edgartown district court:

July 13

Kenn Karakul, 59, of Palm Beach, Fla., was arraigned on July 13 charges in Edgartown of drunken driving, second offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and state highway signal/sign/markings violation. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for July 27.

July 16

Miguel J. Pacheco, 29, of Oak Bluffs, was arraigned on a July 14 charge of assault and battery in Oak Bluffs. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 6.

July 19

Joseph Amaral, 35, of West Tisbury, was arraigned on July 18 charges in West Tisbury of assault to rape, indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older, and assault and battery. According to a police report filed in court, Mr. Amaral allegedly attacked a woman who was sitting in her West Tisbury yard. Police said the woman fought off the attack and then called the police. Police said the alleged victim had “signs of intense struggle.” Bail was set at $2,000 surety and a pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 2.

Morgan L. Beams, 20, of Weston, was arraigned on July 19 charges in Edgartown of drunken driving, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation and license not in possession. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for July 30.

Temple E. Canfield, 47, of Portland, Ore., was arraigned on July 19 charges in Oak Bluffs of drunken driving, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and improper turn. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for Sept. 24.

Shivi Datta, 22, of Oak Bluffs, was arraigned on July 15 charges in Edgartown of larceny from a building and larceny more than $250, for allegedly stealing a wallet with $200 in cash, gift cards worth more than $50, lip gloss and a check made out to cash from a former employer. An August 3 pretrial hearing was scheduled.

Elizabeth A. Doon, 45, of Oak Bluffs, was arraigned on July 17 charges in West Tisbury of drunken driving, marked lanes violation, operator sending/reading an electronic message and unsafe operation of a motor vehicle. According to a police report filed in court, she was allegedly texting and driving and had an unrestrained dog in her lap. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for July 30.

Nelson M. Ferreira, 36, of Edgartown, was arraigned on July 17 charges in Edgartown of assault and battery and intimidating a witness. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 17.

Joseph Lacaprucia, 24, of Oak Bluffs, pleaded guilty to a July 2 charge in Oak Bluffs of assault and battery on a police officer, ordered to spend two years in a house of correction with credit given from July 2. Also pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and ordered to spend six months in a house of correction, concurrent with the other count. A charge of disorderly conduct was dismissed upon request of the commonwealth.

Sarah E. Moreis, 28, of Chilmark, was arraigned on a June 16 charge of assault and battery in Oak Bluffs. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 24.

July 20

Shannon M. Reed, 31, of New Bedford, admitted to sufficient facts on a March 29 charge in Oak Bluffs of possessing class B drugs (Percocet), amended from possessing to distribute class B drugs, continued without a finding for six months. Ordered to pay a $50 victim/witness assessment fee and a $50 monthly probation services fee. A charge of conspiracy to violate drug law was dismissed upon request of the commonwealth.

Jaime D. Ryan, 22, of Harvard, was arraigned on July 20 charges in Oak Bluffs of drunken driving, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violation. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 10.

July 23

Christopher Chapman, 22, of Hyannis, was arraigned on July 22 charges in Oak Bluffs of disorderly conduct, affray (common law) and assault and battery. The charges stem from a fight that allegedly broke out at 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning on Kennebec avenue, in which police said eight to 12 men were fighting in the middle of the street, with between 20 and 30 spectators watching. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 30.

Benjamin W. Galvin, 21, of Hyannis, was arraigned on July 22 charges in Oak Bluffs of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assault and battery, trespassing and affray (common law). The charges stem from a fight that broke out at 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning on Kennebec avenue, in which police said eight to 12 men were fighting in the middle of the street with between 20 and 30 spectators watching. Police said Mr. Galvin jumped over a fence in the back of the Ritz Cafe, climbed up to the roof and jumped off of the roof onto Circuit avenue, and then led police on a foot chase through the Camp Ground and onto Dukes County avenue. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 30.

Sean K. O’Brien, 30, of Oak Bluffs, was arraigned on July 21 charges in Oak Bluffs of disorderly conduct, intimidating a witness and resisting arrest. According to a police report filed in court, Mr. O’Brien was allegedly involved in a fight, and then resisted arrest and stated he was going to kill a police officer’s parents. Bail was set at $500, and a pretrial hearing scheduled for August 16.

John H. Perron, 22, of Worcester, was arraigned on July 22 charges in Oak Bluffs of larceny over $250 and a municipal bylaw or ordinance violation (open container of alcohol). According to police, Mr. Perron allegedly took a moped belong to someone else and attempted to ride it down Central avenue. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 16.

William J. Roberts, 31, of East Falmouth, was arraigned on July 22 charges in Oak Bluffs of disorderly conduct, possessing class B drugs (cocaine) and possessing class C drugs. The charges stem from an alleged fight in front of Season’s Pub after bar closing. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 20.

Sarah E. Smiley, 26, of Apollo Beach, Fla., was arraigned on July 21 charges in Oak Bluffs of disorderly conduct, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot) and resisting arrest. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 16.

Nicholas Viera, 22, of Edgartown, was arraigned on a July 21 charge of assault and battery in Edgartown. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for August 13.
