The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is featuring a special cat named Deacon. He is a beautiful loving ginger tiger cat who needs a home desperately.

Other cats available for adoption are: Brady, a large, older black male; Butter and Chloe, two sweet tortoiseshells who have been at the shelter for a long time; Thor, a large, black older cat; Friday, a year-old black male; and Rex, who is black and white and new to the shelter; Panchie, a young gray and white cat whose owner died recently; and Mango, a female ginger. The shelter still has two kittens, Julie and Meredith, who are next on the kitten wish list and may have been adopted by the time you read this. Please call if you would like to put your name on the kitten wish list.

The shelter fundraising garden party was a huge success and a big thanks goes out to the Coynes who hosted the event, as well as everyone who donated items for both the live and silent auctions and the volunteers who helped.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Volunteers are needed and contributions are always gratefully accepted; we are funded solely by donations. The Susie Fund was established to pay the medical expenses of animals at the shelter who need medical care.
