Saturday, June 30: Cloudless hot morning. Temperature rises to 90 in the shade. A steady westerly breeze offers relief along the water. At South Beach there is light surf. In afternoon, beach sand is hot underfoot. Swimmers dash into the water. Smell of fragrant suntan lotion at a barbecue in Edgartown. Evening of Discovery at the Marine Hospital in Vineyard Haven, is saved from the heat of the day by a steady westerly breeze. Excellent visibility across Lagoon Pond. A bright crimson sunset, a gibbous moon appears just behind the century-old hospital.

Sunday, July 1: Partly cloudy, not as hot. Temperature rises. Threatening thunderstorms pass to the east and northeast of the Vineyard, headed towards Nantucket. Rainbows sighted all around the Island.

Monday, July 2: Hot and sunny. Topsail schooner Shenandoah departs on a cruise loaded with Island youngsters. The afternoon offers perfect sailing weather. Schooner Charlotte is off Gay Head, headed home from a trip to Mystic.

Tuesday, July 3: Sizzling hot afternoon. All roads lead to the beach. Umbrellas decorate the Joseph A. Sylvia State Beach from Edgartown’s Bend in the Road beach, all the way to the Little Bridge near Harthaven. Hazy sunshine overhead. Breezy.

Wednesday, July 4: Light rain in the morning. Ferry Sankaty toots its unique old horn off Vineyard Haven harbor. Skies lighten. Sunshine arrives at noontime. Partly sunny afternoon in time for the Fourth of July parade. The evening fireworks are forecast to go off. A slight chance of showers, as cooler air approaches and brings relief.

Thursday, July 5: The forecast is for mostly cloudy skies in early morning due to patchy fog. Otherwise sunny, not as hot. Temperature forecast to touch 75.
