Geometry meets fantasy in the recent paintings by artist Lanny McDowell, a resident of Martha’s Vineyard since 1970. He invites viewers to wonder what the world looks like through emotion and creativity, rather than through the plodding intellectualism of human eyes.

Mr. McDowell is most famous for his avian photography and photographic prints, but for this show he has created artwork in a variety of mediums. Starting on June 30 and running through July 4, a collection of his recent paintings that capture the abstract attractions of the natural world and some older favorites, will be on display at the Tisbury Water Works.

The show is open daily from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. with an artist reception on Saturday, June 30 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
