I have been hearing that people would like to have back March when the weather was spring-like and we didn’t know what was going to happen to our spring. I have also heard people say they actually turned their heat on once or twice, which breaks the rule of not turning on the heat after April 1. Now we will wait to see what the rest of the month brings.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Jonathan DeOliveira and Brandon James, who celebrated their day June 2; Kaleb Hatt and Alicia Nelson, June 3; Wyatt Belisle, June 5; Donald O’Shaughnessy Jr. and Cassandra Silva, June 8; Julia Marila Lemos and Cailynn Patnaude, June 9; Sarah Felix and Jullyo Lima, June 10; Mario Burnham, Nicholas Cowan and Jovanna Lowell-Bettencourt, who all celebrate their day today June 11, and Madeline Fisher, who celebrates her day June 14.

Congratulations to David and Carol Goldberg, who celebrated their 50th anniversary this past weekend. Here is to many more years together.

Beth and Bill Erickson joined Ralph and me to celebrate Ralph’s birthday at the Grill. As usual, Tony served a delicious meal. The dinners are still two-for-one and Tony said he does not plan to take this away for a while. He has also added some great paintings to the restaurant to make it homier, and he said he is not through with his decorating. It was a great night and we can’t wait to go back again soon.

The residents of Windemere are holding their annual auction to benefit the Activity Programs. There will be a Live and Silent Auction as well as a raffle. Sailing trips, catered dinner for 8 on the beach, stay at a cottage in Maine, Golf lesson, dinner at Homeport, lunch at Farm Neck, handmade quilt and much more!! The admission is free. Wine, desserts and light fare, Friday, June 15, from 6-8 p.m. at the Ag Hall.

Tom Dresser’s last scheduled talk on his tour, on Island, will be Tuesday, June 12, at 5:30 p.m. at the MV Museum. The story is the drama of the shipwreck of the City of Columbus. The book is titled Disaster Off Martha’s Vineyard. It’s a dramatic tale, well worth hearing. The Museum charges $8 for members and $12 for non-members.

Women Empowered has offered free, individual and confidential problem-solving skills to residents of every town on the Island for 12 years now. Periodically this organization hosts a workshop on certain life skills—learning to declutter your life, manage your money, get a job, etc. On Wednesday, July 20, Ken White of Vineyard Haven, retired as a career coach at M.I.T., will conduct a four-hour, interactive workshop entitled Is Your Job Fun? The workshop is geared not only to those who seek or wish to change jobs, but also to those thinking about retiring, as it will help you to figure out how to spend your time with the greatest satisfaction. The workshop will be held at the MV Financial Group offices on State Road in West Tisbury. A bag lunch is included. Call 508-696-3796 for more information or to register.

Congratulations to all the high school students who will graduate this weekend. We wish you well on your future endeavors, and have a safe graduation celebration.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
