Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

Remember the Citizens United resolution at spring town meetings? In all six towns, we voted to support Massachusetts Senate Bill 772, restoring free speech. It calls for the U.S. Congress to move to amend the U.S. Constitution to affirm that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

Now’s the time for the next step: petitions with signatures of 1,200 residents will place the contents of the bill on our statewide November ballot as a public policy question. Look for volunteers holding petitions outside the post office or grocery store.

Please continue the momentum established at our town meetings and sign the petition.
