Bomb-making materials were discovered this week in a storage facility near the airport, according to Edgartown police.

The department is seeking an arrest warrant for Jobian Kerr, 31, on charges of possessing explosive substances or materials, Det. Sgt. Christopher Dolby said in a press release.

According to the police, officers seized “a number” of hazardous bomb-making materials from two storage units at Airport Ministorage of Martha’s Vineyard while executing search warrants.

The discovery stemmed from events in court Tuesday, when Mr. Kerr’s estranged ex-fiancée appeared while seeking a restraining order against him, police said. She informed court officials that he potentially had bomb-making materials in storage units and led police to the storage facility, where she pointed out the suspect materials.

After contacting the Massachusetts state police bomb squad, Edgartown police investigators and bomb squad personnel executed search warrants at the facility, leading to the seizure of the hazardous materials.

Police said Mr. Kerr, who had been living in Canada with his fiancée, had been previously charged in Holyoke district court for making a bomb threat. His whereabouts are unknown, they said, and the case is still under investigation.
