What is the sound of one mime laughing? This question and more will be answered on Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Vineyard Haven Public Library when the comic mime, Robert Rivest, brings his show Literacy Alive to the Island. Showtime is from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.

But this show isn’t just about laughs. Since 1983, Mr. Rivest has presented over 5,000 performances in 11 countries in Europe, Africa and across the U.S. He specializes in encouraging even the most reluctant readers through his comical exploration of many aspects of literature. Through mime and theater techniques, children will learn about plot, characters, setting and more.

Mr. Rivest has also expanded his studies to include meditation, tai-chi, yoga, qigong, and laughter yoga.

The performance is free.

One more question, if a mime falls on stage, does anyone here hear him fall?
