Please Adopt Us

All the staff and volunteers at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard hope that everyone who reads our column had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

This week we are featuring a cat named Chloe who has been at the shelter for such a long time and really deserves to find a home. When she came to us she was very shy but over a period of months she has become a really sweet cat who loves people and is quite gentle and has overcome most of her shyness. Won’t you please come and see her? She is brindle and black.

Other cats needing homes are Butter, who is three years old and brindle and white; Annabelle, a two-year old black and white cat, still a bit shy but with love and attention would make a great pet; Ceilia, our shelter mascot who would really love to be in a home with people who would give her the attention she craves; Bart, a stray from Vineyard Haven who must have been someone’s pet because he is gentle, playful and friendly; Napoleon, our big handsome Maine coon cat, who needs gentle care and attention; Graham, an exceptionally sweet gray and white cat who loves everybody; and Notorious, a handsome, friendly year-old black cat whose name does not suit him at all, a real character who loves to climb on things and plays with anyone who takes the time to pay attention to him.

Please consider as a gift for someone a brick for the front of the shelter with the name of an honored animal or a person. Each brick is $100; two are $180 and three are $225.

Shelter hours are Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
