The off-season is getting a bit cozier as the Kelley House has decided to stay open through the fall and winter, and at unseasonably low prices. Rooms rates at the inn, which debuted in 1742, start at $89 a night.

No need to leave the pets at the kennel, either. Four-legged family members are welcome for a nominal additional fee.

The Kelley House features the Newes from America Pub, a below street-level pub whose brick interior and ambient lighting inspire a bit of Aragorn in all of us, waiting on an errant hobbit before doing battle with the dark forces of the world.

Sound far-fetched? Try a cup of the French onion soup, the cheese crisp and overflowing, and a rack of beers. You too will bid adieu to the worries of present day.

Martha’s Vineyard is a great escape, see above paragraphs, but sometimes, alas, work has a habit of hounding one to the farthest reaches. No worries, the Kelley House still delivers. There is a boardroom available for meetings and business retreats that offers a private bilevel setting to accommodate self-contained meetings and meals.

The Kelley House is located at 23 Kelley street in Edgartown. For reservations, call 800-225-6005 or visit kelley-house.com.
