The following cases were heard in Edgartwn district court.

Nov. 3

James Mickles, 22, of Edgartown, pleaded guilty to an Oct. 2 charge in Edgartown of assault and battery on a woman and was ordered to serve 60 days of a one-year house of correction sentence, with the rest suspended until next October. He was given credit for time served. He also pleaded guilty to an Oct. 2 charge in Edgartown of larceny over $250, and given a concurrent sentence, and an Oct. 2 Vineyard Haven charge of furnishing false name or social security number on arrest. A possession of class E drug charge was dismissed.

Cleber F. Defreitas, 31, of Edgartown, was arraigned on Sept. 8 charges in Edgartown of assault and battery and malicious destruction of property over $250. Police alleged he attacked a woman and destroyed her phone.

Stephen J. Brown, 23, of Edgartown, was found in violation of his probation on 2009 cases involving three drug charges and a weapons charge. Ordered to serve six months in the house of correction with credit for time served. He had been on probation after admitting to sufficient facts to possession of class B and C drugs and carrying a dangerous weapon charges, which were continued without a finding. Because of probation violation finding, guilty findings were entered by the court.

Elizabeth Schreck, 19, of Oak Bluffs, admitted to sufficient facts on August 18 charges in Oak Bluffs of larceny under $250, forgery of a check and uttering a false check, continued without a finding for a year. Ordered to pay $65 monthly probation services fee and $90 victim witness fee. Sept. 2 and Sept. 20 charges in Vineyard Haven of larceny by check under $250 were dismissed at the request of the commonwealth.

Nov. 4

Martin J. Kelly, 37, Edgartown, arraigned on an Oct. 12 charge in Edgartown of possession of a class E drug (alprazolam). Nov. 18 pretrial hearing scheduled.

Mark B. Lacourse, 28, of Easthampton, admitted to sufficient facts on a Sept. 24 drunken driving charge in Edgartown, continued without a finding for a year. Loss of license for 45 days, ordered to enter an alcohol education program and pay $65 monthly probation services fee and $600 in other court assessments. Additional charge of negligent operation of a motor vehicle charge dismissed, found not responsible on a marked lanes violation.

Jemima James, 61, of Vineyard Haven, admitted to sufficient facts on a Sept. 25 charge in Chilmark of drunken driving, continued without a finding for a year. Loss of license for 45 days, ordered into an alcohol education program and to pay $350 in court assessments. Additional charge of negligent operation of a motor vehicle dismissed, found not responsible on marked lanes and lights violations.

Sean M. Geddis, 18, of Edgartown, had Sept. 2 charges in West Tisbury of assault and battery and resisting arrest dismissed at the request of the commonwealth and after alleged victim said she was satisfied with the dismissal.

Roger Craver, 70, of Chilmark, arraigned on Nov. 3 charges in Chilmark of drunken driving and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Dec. 1 pretrial hearing scheduled.

Jaime L. Forend, 20, of Oak Bluffs, arraigned on a Nov. 3 charge in Vineyard Haven of assault and battery. Dec. 1 pretrial hearing scheduled.

Nov. 7

Eric W. Ben David, 49, of Oak Bluffs, found guilty after a bench trial on September 2010 charge in Oak Bluffs of distributing a class B drug (Percocet), placed on probation for two and a half years. Ordered to pay $50 victim witness fee and $150 drug analysis fee and undergo counseling as deemed appropriate by probation officers. Acquitted of charges of conspiracy to violate drug law and drug violation near a school/park.

Gregory J. Ortiz, 45, of Edgartown, admitted to sufficient facts on a September 2010 charge in Oak Bluffs of possession of class B drug (Percocet), continued without a finding for two years. Ordered to forfeit $2,503, pay $50 victim witness fee, submit to random drug screens, and pay monthly $65 probation fee or do community service in lieu of the probation fee. Charges of conspiracy to violate drug law and drug violation near school/park were dismissed.

John M. McElhinney, 51, of Edgartown, arraigned on Nov. 5 charges in Edgartown of operating under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, plus marked lanes, unregistered motor vehicle and lights violations. Dec. 2 pretrial hearing scheduled.

Stephanie R. DaRosa, 36, of Chilmark, arraigned on Nov. 6 charges in Chilmark of drunken driving and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, plus a marked lanes violation. Nov. 28 pretrial hearing scheduled.

Richard J. Corwin, 26, of Vineyard Haven, arraigned on Nov. 5 charges in Edgartown of possession of a class B drug (Percocet), possession to distribute a class B drug and conspiracy to violate drug law. Bail set at $1,200, Nov. 25 pretrial hearing scheduled.

Ryan Amaral, 22, of Edgartown, arraigned on a Nov. 5 charge in Edgartown of conspiracy to violate drug law. Bail set at $1,000, Nov. 28 pretrial hearing scheduled.

Nov. 8

Susan L. Chapman, 49, of Chilmark, pleaded guilty to an August 19 charge in Chilmark of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and placed on a year’s probation, ordered to pay a $50 monthly probation services fee and assessed $500 in other court fees. Charge of drunken driving was dismissed.
