Today, Sept. 16, it’s a double bill from Renaissance House.

From noon to 6 p.m. the Shephard Fine ArtSpace in Oak Bluffs is hosting an art show featuring Renassaince House artists Virginia Deeds and Barbara Russell, aka the doodle queen.

Tonight at 8 p.m. at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven, Renaissance House writers Sharon Henry, an award-winning journalist, poet and coauthor of 10,001 Ways to Live Large on a Small Budget, and Kim Ellis, aka Dr. Goddess, will give a reading. Dr. Goddess is a PhD. and scholar of American and African Studies, an artist, activist and entrepreneur. She is currently on tour with her one-woman show, appropriately entitled, Dr. Goddess!: A One Woman Show.

Renaissance House is a retreat for artists and writers located in Oak Bluffs. It was founded in the memory of Dorothy West and Helene Johnson, two Island residents who were members of the Harlem Renaissance. It seeks to encourage and develop artists by giving them the time to write and write and write.
