Artist Steve Lohman is a magician with wire sculptures. They are both profound and whimsical, offering the viewer a chance to experience grace and humor in one moment.

Over the past 30 years, Mr. Lohman has created works for public, private and corporate commissions including Spalding International, Louis Vuitton, the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, Abbott Vascular Europe, the Boston Children’s Hospital, and a recently completed largescale installation for Stanford University called The Big Brain Cell. His on-Island commissions include the triathlon sculpture at the Mansion House, the mermaid at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport, Lattanzi’s pizza, the Hob Knob cows, the Mod Spa Buddha and the neon sculpture at Atria’s Brick Cellar Bar.

And while spending the day or week traveling the Island seeking out Mr. Lohman’s work is time very well spent, this Saturday, August 20, one can check out many of his pieces in one place when the Shephard Fine ArtSpace on Uncas avenue in Oak Bluffs holds an artist reception for him from 4 to 7 p.m.

Other artists being celebrated at the opening are Chuck Stewart, Marc Cottman and Michael Johnson.
