The Christina Gallery is hosting an art opening on Thursday, August 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. for Sandi Blandi and Marjorie Mason

Ms. Blanda is a self-taught folk artist who was inspired in 1983 when she discovered a Sailors’ Valentine for the first time. Historically, Sailors’ Valentines were brought home to loved ones by sailors during the Victorian era. Ms. Blanda uses only naturally colored shells to create her contemporary versions of these traditional mementos. She will also be hosting a three-day hands-on workshop on how to make Sailors’ Valentines.

Ms. Mason spent her first 15 years as an artist painting monotypes. Her landscapes reflect this background producing images that have the transparency of watercolor, while possessing the softness of pastels.

The Christina Gallery is located at 32 North Water street in Edgartown.
