The Holmes Hole Sailing Association continued its summer season of handicap sailboat racing from Vineyard Haven harbor with a night race on July 7.

Thursday night was a nice evening with a 5 knot south wind. Seventeen boats posted for the 6 p.m. start at red nun 6. The course took the fleet to nun 4 at West Chop, then to green can 23a at East Chop and back to nun 6. The first leg was a run downwind. After rounding the nun, a starboard reach to the can was followed by a beat to windward to the finish line.

Finishing first was David Lott in the Cape Dory 27, Avanti. In second was Phil Hale in the Shields, Wicked. In third was Dan Culkin in the Vineyard Vixen, Magic Time. Fourth was Peter Wagner in Spring, fifth was Bow Van Riper in Tyche, sixth was Mary Worrell in Second Wind, seventh was Andy Berry in Isobar, eighth was John Thelby in Phoenix, ninth was Stuart Halpert in Providence, 10th was Jerry Goodale in Stormalong, 11th was Tim Aureden in Nederua, 12th was Ed Cerullo in Undine, 13th was Woody Bowman in Julia Lee, 14th was Stephen Besse in Apres, 15th was Michael Hoff in Evelyn Mae, 16th was Mathew Thomas in Grasshopper, and 17th was Frank Desimone in Lagoon-ah.

The Sunday Robinson’s Hole Rendezvous was abandoned when the fleet was becalmed at West Chop.

The summer racing series continues with the Thursday night race on July 21. This weekend, the fleet will participate in the Sail MV Vineyard Cup regatta.
