Please Adopt Us

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard would like to extend a big thank you to Austin Higgins, the organizer of the shucking contest which was held last Saturday in Oak Bluffs as a benefit for the shelter, and also to Nancy’s Snack Bar for hosting the event and to all the vendors and businesses that donated to the contest.

We have approximately 15 cats at the shelter now awaiting adoption. They are all beautiful, sweet cats — some quite young and some not so young. They are: Binx, who is black with beautiful white whiskers; Maxine, a short-haired tabby; Faith, another black kitty; Foxy Lady, who was surrendered to the shelter because her owner died; Socks, an elderly lady who needs a warm lap to cuddle in; Chloe and Cupid, who are brindle tortoiseshells; Rascal, another older tabby; Misty, who lived most of her life in a barn and is really independent and sweet; Fisher, Liam, Annabell, Karate and Ceilla; and finally our big, lovable ginger and white tabby Tim-Tim — an amazing, super-friendly cat.

We still have one adorable bunny named Boo, who is white with black markings who loves to be held, and two little guinea pigs named Grace and Fernanda, who would make some child very happy.

Don’t forget the Celebration of Pets, which will be held on June 18 from noon to 2 p.m. at Sunset Lake in Oak Bluffs. There will be a blessing of all pets, a pet parade, a canine agility demonstration, a canine good citizenship award, and treats from Good Dog Goods. Ribbons will be awarded to all pets.

Please consider a donation to the Susie Fund, which was established to help pay vet bills for any cat at the shelter who needs medical attention. Send checks to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard, P.O. Box 190, Edgartown MA 02539. We are so grateful for all donations which make the lives of our shelter animals better.
