The Tisbury School will celebrate the memory of teacher Michael Ovios today, Friday, June 17 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Mr. Ovios, 65, died unexpectedly at Massachusetts General Hospital on March 31. He taught at the Tisbury School for over 35 years and passed on his love of the arts, sculpture, theatre and industrial arts, including woodshop and ceramics, to generations of students.

“All are welcome to gather together at the Tisbury School to share stories and food as we celebrate the memory of our beloved teacher, Mr. Michael Ovios,” principal Richie Smith said. “There are no formal ceremonies planned during this event, people may come and go as they please. This will be an opportunity to walk the halls, enjoy Mr. Ovios’s many sculptures throughout the building, and share stories with one another in honor of Mr. Ovios.”

Hamburgers, hot dogs and other refreshments will be served. The school invites guests to bring a picnic-style side dish or a dessert, stories about Mr. Ovios, and a piece of artwork that you or your children created in his classroom for the school to display among many others in the gym and halls.
