Please Adopt Us

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard has a few nice animals who need good homes.

Everyone at the shelter is so pleased to let you know that our boxer cross, Bella, has been adopted and is now happily settled in at her new home. We all miss her but are glad that she now has a family all her own.

Our cat population is down to four who need to find new homes, because soon summer will be here and with it come kittens. So won’t you please come to the shelter and adopt one of our older cats? They make such wonderful pets for older people who don’t want to go through the kitten stage. The cats are Binx, the black cat with the long white whiskers, who should be an indoor cat because she is still quite shy but does love to be petted; Maxine, our sweet gentle tabby; Foxy Lady, the light colored tortoise shell; and our newest cat, Scout, another female tabby who is only two years old and wants to be someone’s lap cat.

We have a new bunny, CJ, who is a young dwarf white bunny with black spots. She is a female but she can be spayed just like a cat. She can be litter box trained if you have the time and patience. And lastly we have our very young, sweet guinea pig who loves to hide in her hay and make a nest.

Don’t forget the rabies clinic for cats and dogs this Saturday, April 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at two locations; the animal shelter in Edgartown (behind the Vineyard Vet Clinic on Vineyard Haven Road) and the West Tisbury Fire Station. The cost is $15. Please make sure all cats are in carriers and dogs are on leashes. If you have any questions please call during shelter hours, Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday through Tuesday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.

Volunteers are needed and contributions are always gratefully accepted; we are funded solely by donations. The Susie Fund was established to pay the medical expenses of animals at the shelter who need medical care. Please make checks out to The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard; the mailing address is P.O. Box 190, Edgartown MA 02539.
