Please Adopt Us

It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is less than a week away. There are many animals at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard that need loving homes. Please stop by and see them!

The cats are: Cookie, a tortoiseshell and white female; Binx, an all-black male with long white whiskers; Dolly, a tuxedo female; Gracie, a long-haired smoky gray; Angel and Tangerine, two apple-headed flame point Siamese (very unusual); Tinkerbelle, a chubby tiger and white female; Oprah, a tortoiseshell; Hezzie, Alexander and Chopper, three orange males; Callie, an all-black female; Woodie, another all-black long-haired male; and a new young smoky gray female named Pepper. Pepper has just parted with all her kittens and has been spayed — all the shelter animals have been spayed or neutered and have had all their shots.

The shelter’s one dog is Rascal who needs a very special owner; he is an American bulldog-Labrador mix who loves people but is not good with other dogs and so needs someone who will be the pack leader and be strong while walking with him.

We also still have five guinea pigs who would make great Christmas presents for children; they are friendly and love to be cuddled. And we have a new dwarf rabbit named Jack who loves to be held. If you would like to make a donation, the shelter needs shavings, pellets, lettuce, carrots and apples for the guinea pigs.

And speaking of donations, this is the time of year when you may wish to buy a brick to honor a much-loved pet or a person; they make wonderful gifts for the animal lovers on your holiday list.

We also have some great cook books from Linda Jean’s restaurant with all of the recipes for your favorite dishes; the proceeds all go to the animal shelter.

And the shelter needs volunteers — if you have some free time please call Lisa during shelter hours, which are Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
