Happy Diversions To Help Hospice

It’s summer on Martha’s Vineyard and for most people this means vacation. Sun, fun and, hopefully, relaxation. But while life does need a vacation, there is another aspect of our existence that does not take a vacation. Death.

This is not a subject most want to broach, particularly when the sun is shining and the ocean beckons. But there are realities to face. On Monday night Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard, an organization devoted to helping people deal with this reality every day, will be holding its annual fundraising benefit party. Billed as the Summer Soirée, the glamorous evening provides an opportunity to say hello to life while at the same time providing the resources so others can say goodbye with dignity and grace. Hospice does not charge for its services.

The soirée begins at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, August 9. at Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs. Food is prepared by V. Jaime Hamlin with music by John Alaimo. There will be both a silent and live auction.

Tickets are $125 with $90 of that being tax deductible. For tickets or for more information, call 508-693-0189.
