Bid for a bachelor to be your date, complete with manners and trade certificate, providing services in carpentry, air conditioning, landscaping and even music, at the Men in Kilts fundraiser at Mediterranean Restaurant in Oak Bluffs on Thursday, June 24.

With food, cash bar (it’s an over-21 event) and the rocking southern bluegrass music of Christopher Robin, this event is raising funds to send the high school drama troupe to Scotland to perform at the Festival Fringe in August.

With just two months to go, the troupe is still a few thousand dollars away from its goal. The Men in Kilts auction, two car washes and donation days at Morning Glory and Cronig’s will wrap up the Scotland fundraising effort.

The production, The Secret of the Seven Sisters, is written, and the cast is feeling at home with its characters. Costumes are being sewn (more seamstresses are needed if you’re out there), choreography is in the final stages and the musical score is flowing. Kate Murray, author and director, is bringing it all together.

The troupe will premiere The Secret of the Seven Sisters., performing their musical four times, at the Fringe — the oldest, most famous and most respected international theatrical event in the world. And the Island will be there.

The Men In Kilts event will raise money to cover production costs, including costumes, staging, lighting, sound systems and music scores. Mediterranean has donated the space; the band has donated its time.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with appetizers and cocktails, followed by the live auction at 7 p.m. The band plays from 8:30 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door.
