The Martha’s Vineyard Rod and Gun Club will host its 16th annual Fly Rod Striped Bass Catch and Release Tournament this weekend, June 5 and 6.

To confirm entry anglers must check in on Saturday between noon and 3 p.m. (officials will go over the rules at 3 p.m. sharp) at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School cafeteria on the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road.

The tournament and first cast begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday and runs until 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. Awards are given at the Sunday morning breakfast, 8 to 10 a.m., at the high school cafeteria. Notebooks must be turned in by 9 a.m.

Participants have the choice of fishing with their friends as a team, or be teamed up at random. Last year almost 250 fly-fishermen from around the country joined in the fun of trying to land monster stripers on a fly.

Everyone who fishes the tournament has an opportunity to win prizes for Most Fish Caught, Largest Fish Caught and Most Fish on One Fly categories.

For information or to receive an entry packet, call Cooper Gilkes at 508-627-3909, e-mail the Rod and Gun Club at mvrodandgunclub@yahoo.com. Sign up Saturday or online at mvrodandgunclub.com. Or you may write to the club at P.O. Box 1799, Edgartown, MA 02539.
