Playhouse Jester

Alex the Jester will perform at the Vineyard Playhouse on Saturday, May 1, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 a person.

The first show will be appropriate for audiences as young as four and the second show, at 2 p.m., will be geared more for teens, adults and kids nine and up. All shows feature mind-bending sight gags, amazing stunts and are inspired by the rich tradition of the medieval fool.

What is this “fool” going to do next? Change costumes in a split second? Look at you through the darting eyeball in his mouth? Play three flutes simultaneously in staggered rhythms? Squirt ridiculous quantities of water from his mouth like a European fountain?

Alex the Jester keeps his audiences laughing at a nonstop stream of surprises. Connecting all these escapades is a wild-sounding, gibberish language called Grammelot. The humor is universal.

The show is sponsored by the Martha’s Vineyard Library Association and the Vineyard Playhouse at 24 Church street in Vineyard Haven. For details, call 508-645-3360.
