The musical play Bears Beware — Goldilocks Is in Your Town answers the question “What kind of world is it were little girls break into houses that bears own?”

This fun family show will be performed live at the Katharine Cornell Theatre this weekend — Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. plus Saturday at 11 a.m. The evening shows also will include an opening act of improvisation (spontaneous theatre based on audience suggestions using a fairy tale theme), as part of the IMP production by kids, for kids. The matinee is recommended for preschoolers; it’s a one-act version which runs about 45 minutes.

Bears Beware follows the adventures of Goldi, real name Sue, who escapes from the Menagerie City Zoo to fulfill her dream of eating healthy food, sitting in a chair and sleeping in a bed. Along the way she meets many characters who help her escape, including Colonel Tusk, the great white elephant hunter from the hu-MAN society. Will Goldi escape or will she end up as a statue in his trophy room? Filled with hilarious characters, fun tunes and tons of adventure, Bears Beware offers a fresh look at the classic fairy tales. This terrifically entertaining musical comes from Islanders Donna Swift and Brian Weiland and their collaborator Ross Mihalko.

Tickets are $6 for kids, $8 for adults and $25 for the family, available at the door only.

Bears Beware is funded in part by the Martha’s Vineyard Cultural Council. For details, call 508-939-9368 or visit online imp4kids.com.
