On a brilliant August 8 afternoon, friends and family gathered on a high hilltop at Champlain Orchards in Shoreham, Vt., to witness the marriage of Andrea Scott and Bill Suhr. The fiddle music of Becky Tracy could be heard as Andrea and her parents, Marie and Jonathan Scott, walked together up through rows of apple trees. They were escorted to the wedding site by flower girls Eva Stanley and Charlotte Scott, and ring bearers Tristan Scott and Theo Stanley.

Andrea and Bill’s good friend Stacy Keane Blagg was the celebrant for the wedding ceremony. There were readings by Bill’s mother, Audrey Suhr, and Jonathan Scott; an a capella rendition of the song Hunger by Malia Scott, Nathaniel Scott, Elizabeth McGhee and Christopher Blagg; and a community blessing of the rings.

After the ceremony guests made their way down to a beautiful, white tent for hors d’oeuvre, photos, a delicious potluck dinner and sharing of stories. Bill’s stepfather, Roland Anders, accompanied himself on the banjo in a musical tribute to the newlywed couple. Everyone enjoyed a heartfelt version of You Are My Sunshine led by Thomas Lucky. After some lively contra dancing, all were accompanied back to their camping tent, hotel or home by a big, bright full moon.

Andrea and her family spent her early years living in Chilmark, next door to her paternal grandparents, Peggy and Henry Scott. Her maternal grandparents, Ozzie and Rena Fischer, still reside in Chilmark at Beetlebung Farm.

Bill grew up in Elkridge, Md., with his mother, Audrey, and sister, Cary. Bill’s father is the late Robert Suhr. His grandparents were Helen and William Suhr of Wilmington, Del., and William and Barbara Soller of Hartsdale, N.Y.

Andrea and Bill are living and working at their home at Champlain Orchards.
