Frankfurters for Page-Turners at Katama Airfield

Since 1904, the Edgartown Library has served as a foundation for satisfying curiosity, educating youth, aiding work, understanding history and providing enjoyment. It has been a bridge to the mainland and the world for over a hundred years.

The Edgartown Library Foundation encourages all townspeople and Island visitors to come out in support of the library and enjoy a frankfurter at its upcoming event, Frankly We Love Our Library, on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Katama Airfield. In addition to hot dogs, there will be plenty of baked beans, hamburgers and make-your-own ice cream sundaes served by the Right Fork Diner. Don’t miss the fun field events, climbing wall, pony rides and airplane acrobatics.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children aged eight and under, and are available now at the Edgartown Library, Edgartown Town Hall, Edgartown National Bank, as well as the Right Fork Diner.

Frankly We Love Our Library continues a series of events in support of an ongoing capital campaign to raise funds for renovation and expansion of the Edgartown Library. “The library is a key partner in the education of our children,” according to John Stevens, principal of the Edgartown School. “This project is a must for the town of Edgartown.”

Over $9 million of the $14 million needed has already been pledged, with several additional major gifts under discussion. “We have found the support for our unique public library to come from all quarters of our community. Everyone does love the place and is participating in its stewardship. The momentum is palpable,” said capital campaign chairman Rob Hughes. “Events like Frankly inspire all of us, including our Island youth, to participate in building for our future.”

“If you’re a giving person, you have to have some real satisfaction knowing that ‘I was part of that; it happened because I was involved,’” said Ed Jerome, Edgartown resident and retired principal of the Edgartown School.

In the event of rain, Frankly We Love Our Library will be held on the following day, Tuesday, Sept. 8.
