Artisans Open Shop at Ag Hall

Where in West Tisbury can you pick up a pair of handmade leather shoes, a cast iron door handle, a seaglass necklace and a painting of a baboon wearing a suit and tie in one stop? If you guessed Alley’s General Store, close, but no cigar. This weekend, the Brobdingnagian interior of the Agricultural Hall on Panhandle Road will be chock full of items such as these and so much more; all sewn, hewn, knit and printed by Islanders, at the Vineyard Artisans’ 14th Annual Labor Day Festival. The festival features over 130 Island artisans, makers and masters of everything from book arts to fine furniture; basketry to metalsmithing; ceramics to photography. There’s something for everyone, by everyone, at the artisans’ festival.

The doors to the barn-bound bazaar open at 10 a.m., and close 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5 and 6. Admittance to the hall is free of charge, but there is a $2 parking fee, to benefit the Vineyard Artisans/Craftsmen’s Scholarship Fund.
