Great Rock Windpower installed and commissioned the first off the production line endurance model S-343 wind turbine in Edgartown last week. The S-343 has a rotor area of 343 square feet, runs at 166 RPM and is rated at 5.3kW. It is designed to produce more power at lower wind speeds than its predecessors.

Great Rock also commissioned a two bladed 6kW turbine in Edgartown earlier in the month. This turbine uses pitching technology to get the most from the wind. Both wind generators are showing early signs that they are in very productive locations. The turbines previously installed by Great Rock Windpower have generated over 34 megawatt hours of clean electricity to date. These two additional generators will add significantly to our Island’s clean energy production.
