Friday, August 7: Clear and sunny. Catboat heads out of Edgartown harbor. Northwest wind in the morning drops to a light shifting breeze after lunch. Calm afternoon. Nantucket Sound offers sharp visibility. In the late afternoon high flying cirrus clouds appear as thin whisps of pink cotton candy overhead.

Saturday, August 8: Light southwest wind in the morning. Sailboats in Nantucket Sound are becalmed. Increasing fair weather clouds. Cumulus clouds hug the western horizon. Fast ferry speeds across the Sound and leaves behind a long white wake.

Sunday, August 9: Sunny morning. Steady southeast breeze crosses Nantucket Sound. Twelve metre sailboat displays spinaker out beyond the Cape Pogue Lighthouse. Clouds increase in the west. Skies darken by late afternoon, cooler. Breezy. Choppy off Cow Bay. Bend in the Road Beach is barren of visitors under dark clouds. Rain overnight.

Monday, August 10: Hot and muggy. Summer Monday. Perfect beach day at South Beach.

Tuesday, August 11: Hottest day of the summer, so far. Temperature rises to 89 in the shade in Edgartown. House tour in downtown Edgartown attracts ladies with wide brim hats and bright colored summer dresses. Two strollers stand in the shade. Lemonade sipping afternoon in Ocean Park. Bathers sit on the bulkhead and watch powerboats speed across Nantucket Sound. Anglers cast their baited hooks at the Oak Bluffs harbor jetty.

Wednesday, August 12: Dark clouds arrive in the morning. Sky is overcast. Sunshine is rare. Easterly maritime breeze. West Tisbury farmer’s market is crowded. Umbrellas decorate the former fairground. Black-eyed Susan flowers line the edge of a West Tisbury golden meadow. Traffic through the up-Island center of town is slow. A long traffic line to The Blinker extends for almost a mile. Windows are closed. Car air conditioners are on.

Thursday, August 13: Rain in the morning. Puddles line downtown Vineyard Haven. Light east northeast breeze. Rain umbrellas dance along Main street in Edgartown. Drizzle.
