Paul Watts, a well-known banking executive for many years at Sovereign Bank, formerly Compass and Martha’s Vineyard National, has joined the Edgartown National Bank as senior vice president and commercial loan officer.

An announcement about the appointment was made by Fielding Moore, president and chief executive officer of Edgartown National.

“Paul and I have shared backgrounds in community banking and a philosophy of personalized service that only community banks can deliver. Mr. Watts has distinguished himself with professionalism and outstanding dedication to the Island community. Paul will be a most welcome addition to our Edgartown National Bank team,” said Mr. Moore in a prepared statement.

Mr. Watts moved to the Island in 1989 and worked for Martha’s Vineyard National Bank, relocating from Maine with his wife Diane and daughters Kimberley and Jennifer. Martha’s Vineyard National was purchased by Compass Bank during the mid 1990s. Compass was then acquired by Sovereign Bank which in turn was recently purchased by Spanish-owned Banco Santander.

The Edgartown National Bank is an independent community bank. “I’m thrilled to be back in community banking,” said Mr. Watts in the statement.
